This weekend we celebrate Pentecost, a day of great joy. On this day God shared with mankind the life of His Son. On this day God formed His Church and, out many languages He brought out one voice to profess one faith. Rejoicing we acclaim: Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

The day of Pentecost, which commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the People of God, completes the Paschal celebration. The glory of a solemnity is expressed by the intensity with which the Church celebrates it. When dealing with a great feast, we celebrate with an octave: the feast day and the following seven days. This is the eighth Sunday of the Easter celebration and we are reminded that we are a new creation in Christ Jesus.

We now live in this new creation, a new day, a new week, and the Holy Spirit is upon us.
