Today God’s Word speaks to us about a surprising visit. If the prophet Zaccharias had been on the staff of The New York Times, he would headline the news as: “The King of the universe comes to planet Earth”. Isn’t that impressive? But God does not come to be exclusively interviewed by the high and mighty. What is important to God is the people. You and I are important. When God visits us, we are turned from simple spectators to full-right protagonists. Because in God’s sight our importance does not depend on our checking account, or on having an important profession or a brilliant political career; nor does it depend on our success in business, on our health or on whether we own a luxurious apartment. Being a person is being important.

At our Masses this Sunday it is our turn to rejoice for the greatest visit that planet Earth has received. We have a reason to live with joy—or at least with hope—because God is with us.
