The Lord's Day

The Ascension of the Lord

May 17th, 2026

Today we celebrate the Ascension of the Lord into heaven. Christ has accomplished His mission and now returns to the Father. One day He will come again in great power and majesty to judge the world. But how was Christ’s mission on earth carried out? Was it a “bed of roses” in which, after living comfortably, He attained the first place? We know that is not so. We have just celebrated Easter. He first had to become man, which is already a humiliation. Then he had to live a life that was a lot harder and worse than any of ours. He was rejected by His own, betrayed by His friends; He had to drink the cup of suffering, the cross, death itself, before coming to the resurrection and the ascension.

May the Eucharist we celebrate today be for us a source of strength so that we will be Christ’s witness and someday enjoy everlasting life.
